'I am Hamish and I am Danish' - Golfer with Scottish roots bounces back
Getty ImagesDanish golfer Hamish Brown is relishing his return to world golf's top table - and causing surprise and confusion with his Scottish-sounding name.
The 27-year-old has secured a place on the DP World Tour, the main tour in professional men's golf.
Brown's name reflects some Scottish ancestry - his dad is from Scotland and lived in Perth and Blairgowrie before moving to Copenhagen to teach golf in 1985.
He said announcers, usually when he is playing tournaments in Scotland, think a mistake has been made when they read out his name and Denmark as his home country. "It is always fun having those situations," he said.
'Very Scottish'
Brown, who lives in Denmark, said there was even a saying for him on tours - "I am Hamish and I am Danish".
"It is a very Scottish name," he said.
"It is always fun having those situations when I get over there [Scotland] and people being like 'what is that story about your name?' and then it makes sense when I explain it to them.
"It has been a start of a good few conversations."
Brown said he always felt at home when visiting Scotland and has close friends there.
Hamish BrownBrown failed to retain his DP World Tour playing rights last season, but has bounced back at the first attempt.
With so much to look forward to, one of his big targets will be trying to get himself in the field for next summer's Open Championship in St Andrews and secure the chance to potentially turning his golfing dream into reality.
He said: "I was there for the 2022 Open the last time it was at St Andrews, I was there on Tuesday and Thursday to see and I just felt like 'wow'.
"It doesn't get bigger for me. That is my ultimate golfing goal, walking up 18 at St Andrews and having a shot at winning The Open - that is my Holy Grail."
Brown added: "I have been lucky growing up and going over there a lot and seeing what Scotland has to offer, especially in the golfing side."
