Paperless parking rollout for district car parks
GooglePaperless ticket machines will be installed at car parks across a district in Leicestershire next week.
The new machines are to be introduced at five car parks in Blaby and Narborough on 29 and 30 September, the district council said.
As a result, customers won't need to return to their vehicles to display parking tickets once they have input their car registration using a touch screen.
Older parking machines will be replaced at the Enderby Road and Johns Court car parks in Blaby and the Leicester Road, Weavers Court and The Station car parks in Narborough.
A paperless machine was installed in Bouskell Park's car park during renovation work in 2024.
Blaby District Council said car parking officers will use a handheld device to check a ticket has been purchased for each vehicle.
The council said the move supports its "commitment to reducing paper waste and lowering carbon emissions", while also reducing the risk of machine downtime caused by paper jams.
Mike Shirley, Blaby District Council portfolio holder for environmental services and car parks, said the new machines would provide a "much smoother experience" for customers.
Ticket prices are to remain the same, while blue badge holders will continue to be able to park for free for three hours in all district council-owned car parks.
The authority added the same cash and contactless card payment options will remain available on the new machines.
PayByPhone will also remain available at all sites and receipts will be available digitally via text message or email.
Machines will be replaced one at a time, so car parks with more than one machine will still have a payment option available, the council added.
