A motorway slip road has been reopened after a police vehicle caught fire earlier on the M62.

Emergency services were called to junction 28, near Tingley, at about 23:15 GMT on Monday.

West Yorkshire Police said the vehicle was a hybrid petrol-battery car and confirmed no one had been injured in the incident.

National Highways confirmed on X that the slip road had reopened shortly after 14:00 GMT on Tuesday, but that lane four of the roundabout would remain closed overnight for resurfacing.

Both carriageways were initially closed before later reopening, but the force said the westbound slip road had remained shut while the vehicle was recovered.

A spokesperson had said the car would be removed from the scene once the "lithium-ion battery inside is judged to have sufficiently cooled".

A full inspection of the vehicle would then take place to establish the cause of the fire, the spokesperson added.

National Highways said there were no significant delays as a result of the incident.
