A man has died after a fire on the first floor of a three-storey block of flats.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said eight crews and five officers attended the blaze at Hughenden Boulevard, High Wycombe, after being called at 00:14 BST on Sunday.

Crews used breathing apparatus and gas monitors to check carbon monoxide levels within the block of flats as they tackled the fire. One man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire service scaled back operations at about 01:30, and the scene was handed over to Thames Valley Police, who will complete a file for the coroner.

Crews attended from High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Amersham, Princes Risborough and Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire, as well as Maidenhead and Whitley Wood in Berkshire.
