Three men have been jailed for what a judge described as a "brutal" street attack in an Aberdeenshire town.

Ewan McIntosh was beaten with a pole, kicked and punched during the assault in Fraserburgh in February 2023.

Connor Smith, 23, was convicted of attempted murder, while Bobby Hendry, 36, and Brandon Noble, 20, were convicted of assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger to life.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, Smith was jailed for five years, Hendry for five-and-a-half years and Noble for two years and eight months.

Lady Drummond told Hendry that he was significantly older than the other two accused and had a lengthy criminal record.

The younger pair of attackers were teenagers at the time.

The offence happened at Gallowhill Road, Viewfield Road, Queen Mary Street and Gray Street when the victim was pursued and attacked.

The judge said the victim suffered serious injuries as well as the attack having a psychological impact.

She said: "It was a sustained and brutal attack on the public streets of Fraserburgh."

She ordered that Hendry should be under supervision in the community for a further three years after his release.
