Thief took police on 'Great Windsor Triathlon'

A thief who tried to evade police by hiding in a wardrobe had earlier tried to shake them off by running, swimming and cycling off in what officers dubbed the Great Windsor Triathlon.

Alan Styles, 51, admitted one count of theft after he was caught on CCTV stealing food from the Windsor Farm Shop in Old Windsor on 24 September and then riding his getaway bike into a metal gate.

He also admitted stealing a bike in Eton Court in Eton two days later, and to outraging public decency in Meadow Lane, Eton, on 30 September.

Styles was given an 18-month community order at Reading Magistrates' Court on 19 October.

He also admitted stealing from Marks & Spencer in Windsor on 8 September and an assault in The Brocas, also in the same town, on 13 August.
