  1. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:16 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 49-0

Ben Compton gets a life on 17 off the bowling of Ben Sanderson.

An outside edge flies low towards George Bartlett at third slip, but fourth slip Nathan McSweeney dives in front and spills the chance.

    That's a tight slip cordon.

    Rhodes c Price b Langridge 22 (Durham 100-3 v Glos 137)

Lovely bowling from JT Langridge and Will Rhodes has to dangle a bat at this.

He finds the edge and loops a catch to Ollie Price in the slips to break the 84-run stand and earn Glos a bonus point.

The new batter is a man named Ben Stokes, who scored back-to-back half-centuries at Derby last week.

    Durham 100-2 v Glos 137

    When it's not your day...

Daz Ahmed somehow manages to beat the bat of David Bedingham, beat the stumps, and beat James Bracey and the ball races away for four byes.

Durham into three figures and the deficit is a meagre 37.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:10 BST 27 August

    Pope lbw b Akhter 13 (Essex v Surrey 138-7)

Ollie Pope slightly loses his balance trying to whip it into the leg side with hands and eye coordination alone and precious little footwork.

The result when he missed is an impact bang in front of middle and off and he can have no arguments, which he doesn't to be fair to him for all that he is clearly frustrated with himself.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:10 BST 27 August

    Ingram lbw b Abbott 32 (Glam 67-4 v Hants 162)

Colin Ingram was looking in decent touch punishing Kyle Abbott for drifting too full with a beautiful hit through extra cover but a ball later the bowler has his man.

At first glance that looked like it had taken an inside edge on to pad and then through to Ben Brown for a caught behind but the umpire has indicated to the scorers that it was pad first.

It was a big wicket for Hants however it came as Ingram was looking in decent touch and the partnership with Ben Kelleway was up to 65.

    Yorks 144-5 v Leics

The predicted rain has come and shows no sign of stopping so that will be that for day one.

It won't improve Jonny Bairstow's mood to know he got out to the penultimate ball of the day.

There's more rain in the forecast for tomorrow, but hopefully we'll get out there for more play tomorrow. It's been absorbing stuff.

  7. Postpublished at 17:04 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 39-0

First bowling change of the match as Northamptonshire skipper Luke Procter brings himself on to replace Liam Guthrie.

Ben Compton picks up a single from his first over.

Compton then unfurls a lovely short arm jab to the boundary as Ben Sanderson continues. The Kent opener seems to be finding his feet.

  8. 50 runs

for David Bedinghampublished at 17:02 BST 27 August

    Durham 90-2 v Glos 137

A short and wide one from Daz Ahmed gets the treatment from David Bedingham who cuts to the fence.

You can't bowl there. Except he does it again. Same result.

Ahmed gets his line straighter but the South African creams the fourth ball down the ground for a lovely four to bring up a run-a-ball half-century with his 10th boundary.

And number 11 comes with a beautiful on-drive from the next delivery.

16 off the over. Bedingham now has 55*.

  9. Postpublished at 17:01 BST 27 August

    Essex v Surrey 132-6

There was us going on about Ollie Pope and it is Tom Lawes who takes the fight to Essex.

Jamie Porter gets a bit full and Lawes cracks two well-struck fours and seeing a third stopped only by a tumbling effort at mid on by the soon-to-be-retired Dean Elgar.

Pope then joins the party timing a punch to midwicket which races to the fence.

  10. Postpublished at 16:58 BST 27 August

    Durham 74-2 v Glos 137

JT Langridge takes the first over after tea but David Bedingham works seven runs off his first three deliveries, a lovely flash through the covers for four in the middle.

Langridge, on his First Class debut, recovers well with three dots to Will Rhodes.

    Durham are 63 behind.

Daz Ahmed will bowl some pace from the other end.

    Northants v Kent 30-0

Ben Sanderson appeals for lbw against Zak CrawleyImage source, Getty Images

Ben Sanderson finds Zak Crawley's front pad. Big appeal, but the Kent opener survives.

An almost carbon copy delivery and appeal gets the same result.

Crawley has been batting out of his crease, so wicketkeeper Lewis McManus decides to stand up to the stumps to stop that little game.

Another probing over, but Kent have got through the opening nine overs unscathed.

Ollie Pope scored a century against Notts last weekend

Ollie Pope is seven from 11 after parachuting into the starting XI from Lord's and how Surrey could do with a blessing from him today.

The England and Surrey man posted a solid 111 in a losing cause against Notts last week and will feel he has an important job coming in down at seven.

Tom Lawes is a solid performer with a first class average just short of 30.

  13. Final session starts at CLSpublished at 16:54 BST 27 August

    Durham 67-2 v Glos 137

Will Rhodes (18*) and David Bedingham (32*) return to the middle at CLS.

32 overs remain in the day, but it's very dark still.

The band of torrential rain has not reached the north east... yet.

  14. Postpublished at 16:50 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 28-0

Four slips in for left-armer Liam Guthrie as he bustles in to Ben Compton and draws a big play and miss with a super delivery.

A really good over is spoiled at the last as Guthrie's line strays and Compton rocks back to smash it square for his first four.

  15. Postpublished at 16:45 BST 27 August

    Sussex 28-1 v Somerset 202

Tom Clark was on a hat-trick earlier but is now out there with the bat trying to guide his side through this final session.

He pulls then clips back-to-back balls from Josh Shaw that are too short snd straight to the square leg fence.

  16. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 16:39 BST 27 August

    Worcs v Lancs

A third game of the day is abandoned without a ball being bowled.

    Sad times.

Let's hope for better fortunes on Friday.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:39 BST 27 August

    Thomas c Critchley b Cook 43 (Essex v Surrey 108-6)

Good grab from Matt Critchley throwing two hands down low to his right at third slip and Josh Thomas is on his way.

Sam Cook has just put that in the channel but it lifts a little off the pitch, just enough to scramble the geometry for the batsman.

  18. Postpublished at 16:36 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 19-0

Ben Sanderson finds the outside edge, but Zak Crawkey plays it with soft hands and guides it to the third man rope for his third boundary.

The Kent opener pinches a single to keep the strike and moves quickly to 16.

  20. Postpublished at 16:33 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 13-0

An inside edge gives Zak Crawley a scratchy single and gets him off strike. The evergreen Ben Sanderson is bang on the money immediately.

A beauty from around the wicket squares up Ben Compton but misses everything.

Liam Guthrie relieves the pressure as Crawley crashes a wide half-volley for four.

Short and wide again and the former England opener isn't going to miss out, dispatching it for a second boundary of the over.
