  1. Pitch inspection at New Roadpublished at 16:33 BST 27 August

    Worcs v Lancs

They're going to have a look again now.

A lot of work has gone in to making the surface playable but word is the outfield is very damp still, and they know a bit about such things at New Road.

  2. Tea at CLSpublished at 16:31 BST 27 August

    Durham 67-2 v Glos 137

Will Rhodes (18*) and David Bedingham (32*) bring up the 50-partnership four balls before the interval, running a three to deep mid-wicket off James Hayes via the bat of Rhodes.

A very handy stand after losing Alex Lees and Ben McKinney early.

They are 70 behind the visitors' total, eight wickets in hand and, in theory, 32 overs to come this evening, unless the weather arrives.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:30 BST 27 August

Lomror run out 17 (Essex v Surrey 102-5)

Mahipal Lomror has had a shocker here but credit to Essex for having the cool to make him pay.

First ball of the evening session and the batsman turns the ball into the leg side and sets off for a comfortable single.

Inexplicably he turns and sets off the second without looking but Adam Thomas is having none of it

By the time he realises, Lomror could virtually pat Thomas on the back so he turns and sets off.

With the ball coming in from the deep from Zaman Akhter going to Michael Pepper, the wicketkeeper has to keep calm to throw to Sam Cook at the non striker's end.

Cook gathers and breaks the stumps with Lomror short of his ground.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:26 BST 27 August

    Haines c Lammonby b Gregory (Sussex 15-1 v Somerset 202)

You’d think there would still be plenty available for the Somerset seamers and they have their first wicket.

But this is a misjudgment from Tom Haines as he goes to flick Lewis Gregory leg side.

It bounced on him a fraction and takes the shoulder of the bat for an easy catch to square leg.

  5. Postpublished at 16:26 BST 27 August

    Durham 64-2 v Glos 137

Time for some spin at CLS as Sai Kishore comes into the attack for the visitors.

The Indian picked up a fivefer on this ground for Surrey last year but I suspect the conditions were not the same as this - green track, leaden skies, lights on.

    Two overs remain until tea.

  6. Postpublished at 16:25 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 3-0

The sun was out a few minutes ago but now the floodlights are on. It's been that kind of day.

A wild wide from Liam Guthrie gets the Kent scoreboard ticking before Zak Crawley turns a ball into the legside and gets off the mark with a couple.

Barely believable that spectators are seeing their first Championship cricket here since June 15.

  7. Play under way in Northamptonpublished at 16:20 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent 0-0

Almost a dramatic start as Ben Sanderson angles the first ball of the match into the front pad of Kent opener Ben Compton. Not out.

A relieved and defensive Compton survives to play out a maiden. Zak Crawley will face his first ball from Liam Guthrie.

This is a huge game in the Division Two promotion race with Northamptonshire, in third, trailing second-placed Kent by just five points.

Surrey have been well off the pace this year and hindered by too many draws. Tough games incoming with Yorkshire, Sussex, Glamorgan and Somerset following Essex. Could it be their lowest finish for some time? They desperately need to start winning.

  9. Postpublished at 16:15 BST 27 August

    Durham 62-2 v Glos 137

Another lovely stroke from David Bedingham through the leg-side.

Another superbly-timed clip off his pads though mid-wicket takes him to 28*.

The deficit is 75 with eight wickets still in hand.

  10. 'Extraordinary collapse from Somerset'published at 16:14 BST 27 August

    Sussex 0-0 v Somerset 202

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Radio Sussex

An extraordinary collapse from Somerset who lost their last five wickets for just 11 runs which included a hat-trick for Henry Crocombe.

Prior to that Tom Abell and Craig Overton had looked untroubled in a partnership of 95 which only ended when Abell played a poor shot to be caught at first slip.

The wicket is offering help to the seamers and Somerset will feel there is every chance of taking wickets before the close

  11. Postpublished at 16:13 BST 27 August

    Sussex 0-0 v Somerset 202

Sussex open their reply with a maiden.

37 overs left in the day at Hove.

5-11 in six overs the Somerset collapse before tea, including that Henry Crocombe hat-trick.

  12. Toss and teams at Northamptonpublished at 16:13 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent (16:15 BST)

Northamptonshire have won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The hosts are unchanged from the side which thrashed Lancashire last weekend, while Grant Stewart returns for Kent.

We have 36 overs scheduled for the rest of the day if the conditions allow.

  13. Postpublished at 16:11 BST 27 August

    Durham 56-2 v Glos 137

Will Rhodes shows exquisite timing to cut a short ball from James Hayes through mid-wicket for four.

He moves on to 17* and this partnership is up to 40.

  14. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:08 BST 27 August

    Essex v Surrey 101-4

Adam Thomas (39) and Mahipal Lomror (16) walk off with ship steadied and Surrey's innings, sort of, back on track.

Rain and robbed Chelmsford of any play before 1.30pm but when they started Essex dominated with four quick wickets reducing the former champions to 50-4.

Since then the Surrey pair have dug in and nudged the score along as Essex's bowlers tired. We will be back in 20 to find out whether they can regain that zip for the final session.

There are supposed to be a minimum of 49 overs in the last session but the light is not great and you would be surprised if that was possible.

  15. Postpublished at 16:05 BST 27 August

    Durham 50-2 v Glos 137

Still plenty of overs left before tea at CLS. 38 remain in the day, in theory, but the band of heavy rain sweeping north and east might mean we don't see them all.

Durham are 87 behind and will be keen to get closer to parity on this opening day, while the conditions allow.

  16. Play to start at 16:15 BST in Northamptonpublished at 16:04 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent (delayed start)

After a washed out first two sessions, there's a buzz of activity at Northampton following an early tea.

The covers are off, the stumps are in the ground and the skippers are out in the middle for what appears to be the toss.

Expect news in a minute or so.

  17. Postpublished at 16:03 BST 27 August

    Durham 50-2 v Glos 137

David Bedingham raises the bar in the shot of the day competition with a lovely straight drive for four as the hosts help themselves to nine off the over from Mitch Killeen.

He has five fours in his 23*, Will Rhodes has 13* and the partnership is worth 34.

  18. Tea at Sophia Gardenspublished at 15:58 BST 27 August

    Glam 11-3 v Hants 162

Thirteen wickets down in two sessions!

Who would have thought that Hants would be feeling confident about their total over a sandwich and a cuppa?

There have been some low scores since the County Championship resumed for its final run last week and anything over 150 is by no means disastrous.

Glam would take that now, that's for sure.

  19. Covers on at Scarboroughpublished at 15:56 BST 27 August

    Tea: Yorks 144-5 v Leics

The signs aren't looking good for a resumption at Scarborough.

The scheduled end of tea has passed and the covers have been pushed on to the pitch.

Rain is due. And a lot of it.

Even though 202 may seem a poor effort from Somerset, I fancy Overton and Gregory against this out of form Sussex side and in these conditions. As they say on bargain hunt, could be a winning score.
