    Glos 38-0 v Worcs - trail by 79

Gloucestershire's solid start to their second crack continues, no doubt aided by successive boundaries from Joe Phillips.

Both come off Ben Allison, who has now conceded more runs than in his first innings where he took 5-19 off nearly 18 overs.

  2. Postpublished at 14:18 BST 22 August

    Hants v Yorkshire 233-8 - lead by 209

Half a caught-and-bowled opportunity for Andrew Neal as George Hill pops the ball back to the slow left-armer but Dom Bess at the non-striker's end cannot get out of the way and Neal is unable to get fingers to it.

Neal backs that up with a beauty of a delivery next up which bounces just over middle and off.

    Gumbs b Van der Gugten 93 (Leicestershire 199-7 v Glamorgan - lead 198)

    Sheridon Gumbs goes!

That is a real pity for the Leicestershire opener, the only batter in this match to pass 50 and he has to depart seven runs short of what would have been his maiden first-class ton having been cleaned up by Timm van der Gugten.

It has still been a remarkable effort and it could yet prove to be a match-defining innings.

  4. Postpublished at 14:14 BST 22 August

    Somerset v Essex 160-3 - trail by 151

Matt Critchley clouts two successive balls from Archie Vaughan over mid-wicket for four. Change of tactics by the Essex all-rounder, who is now 23 not out?

As a Lancashire fan, let’s hope Gloucestershire’s fightback doesn’t continue, otherwise it will be a dogfight to prevent Lancashire finishing bottom of championship for first time in history.

    Paul, Manchester

At the start of this round of matches, the gap between the two sides was 43 points so Gloucestershire have a lot of work to do to close that gap.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Ben McKinneypublished at 14:11 BST 22 August

    Derbyshire v Durham 85-1 - lead by 212

Durham's left-handed opener Ben McKinney goes to 50.

It's taken him 68 balls with eight fours in his innings so far.

He then backs that up with a glorious straight drive back past Nick Potts for another boundary.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:11 BST 22 August

    Carson c Mousley b Bamber 12 (Warks v Sussex 194-9 - lead by 189)

Limp dismissal for Jack Carson who dangles the bat at a ball from Ethan Bamber which finds a little movement off the pitch and Dan Mousley takes a shoulder-high catch at slip.

Bamber now has three wickets in the innings and Warwickshire will be satisfied if they can keep their target under 200.

  8. wicket

    Patterson-White c Foakes b Worrall 12 (Surrey v Notts 277-9 - lead by 299)

A rash swipe of the bat from Liam Patterson-White brings to an end his innings and the returning Dan Worrall has a fourth, and Surrey's ninth.

The lead for Notts is 299, but at one stage it looked as though it would be a far greater total to defend. Tail enders Brett Hutton (4*) and Dillon Pennington (1*) will now try and add a few lower order runs.

  9. Postpublished at 14:10 BST 22 August

    Somerset v Essex 152-3 - trail by 159

    Almost unplayable.

Jack Leach finds sharp turn and bounce to Charlie Allison and the ball flies over the gloves of keeper James Rew and away for four byes.

  10. ouch!

Postpublished at 14:10 BST 22 August

    Leicestershire 195-6 v Glamorgan - lead by 194

    Oh dear.

Glamorgan keeper Chris Cooke, standing up to Zain ul-Hassan, has just taken the ball right in the grill and the helmet has flown off.

Cooke is immediately knocked off his feet and is now having medical treatment.

Update: Cooke is back on his feet and is going to stay stood up. He seems okay to continue.

  11. Durham lead surpasses 200published at 14:08 BST 22 August

    Derbyshire v Durham 76-1 - lead by 203

Will Rhodes clips off his pads to the square leg boundary for four as Durham's lead moves past 200.

  12. Postpublished at 14:07 BST 22 August

    Middlesex v Kent 180-4 - lead by 281

Quiet, sedate stuff since lunch at Merchant Taylors' School and that can only be good news for Kent.

Chris Benjamin has settled in alongside Ben Compton, who has ticked along to 59.

    Bairstow b Neal 36 (Hants v Yorkshire 225-8 - lead by 201)

Andrew Neal picks up the big wicket of Jonny Bairstow!

Bairstow looks to carve away into the offside but completely misses out and sees his off-stump dislodged. He looks furious with himself as he drags himself off the pitch.

Dom Bess walks to the crease at number 10 for Yorkshire. A good little period for Hampshire after lunch.

  14. Yorkshire lead surpasses 200published at 14:02 BST 22 August

    Hants v Yorkshire 225-7 - lead by 201

Huge appeal for a catch as new man in George Hill attempts a reverse sweep and is taken at first slip but the umpire is unmoved, believing Hill didn't get bat or glove on it, and he remains 0 not out.

Yorkshire's lead, importantly, has now surpassed 200.

I just arrived at Old Trafford and found there was no play but a heavy roller on an otherwise deserted outfield. "Has there been no play today?" I asked a young spectator. "No," he laughed, "Lancashire are just rubbish."

    Al Davis, Blackpool

It feels like comedy is the last resort for Lancashire fans, of whatever age, to cope with their side's current fortunes.

And if Al only arrived at lunch, he will have missed the fall of eight wickets in the morning session.

  16. Postpublished at 14:01 BST 22 August

    Somerset v Essex 147-3 - trail by 164

Not the line required from Jake Ball as Matt Critchley flicks it away fine for four. The Essex all-rounder drives the next delivery powerfully, but can't pierce the field and has to settle for one.

  17. Postpublished at 14:00 BST 22 August

    Leicestershire 186-6 v Glamorgan - lead by 185

Every run will be crucial in this one-innings shoot-out at Grace Road.

Leicestershire resume with a strong seventh wicket partnership in place and with young batter Sheridon Gumbs sat on 84, having batted exceedingly well in the circumstances.

It is hard to know exactly what Leicestershire will have in mind with wickets still in hand, but Gumbs and Ben Mike (19*) are playing appropriately right now and will, in the short term, be aiming to lift Leicestershire's lead well past 200.

  18. 6 runs

Postpublished at 13:56 BST 22 August

    Hants v Yorkshire 222-7 - lead by 198

Jonny Bairstow picks this up really nicely and makes his intentions clear, heaving Felix Organ over the square leg boundary for his second maximum of the innings.

Yorkshire's lead nears 200. Bairstow has moved on to 36 not out off 47 deliveries.

  19. Postpublished at 13:55 BST 22 August

    Surrey v Notts 258-8 - lead by 280

No hat-trick for Fisher, but what a spell this has proven to be.

Surrey have picked up four wickets in the space of 16 balls and for the loss of one run - suddenly this match is firmly in the balance having appeared as though Notts were batting Surrey out of the game.

Fisher (4-50) has been making the old ball sing.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:55 BST 22 August

    Crocombe c Davies b Bamber 5 (Warks v Susex 187-8 - lead by 182)

    Oh dear.

Henry Crocombe attempts a big drive off Ethan Bamber in the first over of the afternoon session, but there is negligible foot movement and he edges through to keeper Alex Davies.

Not the sort of shot required from a tailender with every run vital for the visitors.
