You could sense what Gus Atkinson was trying to do.

He is trying to angle it back into off stump and that's where Babar Azam can be vulnerable early in the game.

You can sense that England will now believe.

Gus Atkinson is 2-9 from four overs. He has been relentless with his length.

Mike Hesson will not be applauding this one...

Babar Azam, having looked like a man totally comfortable and cruising, is undone by a full delivery which just nips sufficiently to beat the Pakistan batter's straight drive.

You could hear a pin drop at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

That was a great moment for Henry Crocombe. The best thing about that is watching his teammates engulf him.

Taking your first wicket and being mobbed by your teammates.

It was an ugly shot, but Crocombe has held his length really well here.

  4. Pak 31-2published at 6.4 overs

The bespectacled Mike Hesson is slurping on a cup of tea pondering that wicket as Gus Atkinson continues.

Babar Azam looks a million dollars with a stylish straight drive.

That draw applause from Pakistan coach Hesson.

    Absolutely glorious strokeplay.

An unconventional and unconvincing shot from Saim Ayub.

A first international wicket for Henry Crocombe!

A curious shot from Saim Ayub, who is tucked up by the England quick, from around the wicket, and ends up simply guiding the ball into the hands of Jamie Overton at slip.

Almost the kind of catch you would see in training.

  7. Pak 27-1published at 5.5 overs

A free hit for Babar Azam to face after a Henry Crocombe no-ball.

Babar attempts to hit into next week but chuckles all round among the England fielders after he toe ends it into the pitch.

Crocombe grimaces with his hands on his head after Babar drives on the up and it just evades a fielder.

It just takes one shot to give yourself that confidence back.

Think of Ben Duckett who got stuck in the second game, and this is why I don't like the word form for batters.

It has been a more disciplined start from England today, Gus Atkinson in particular has just kept things simple.

  9. Pak 24-1published at 5.1 overs

It's only Babar Azam's second delivery, but he plays it like he's been at the crease for 20 overs.

Henry Crocombe is a tad full and Babar stylishly caresses it down the ground for four.

The crowd cannot wait for Babar Azam.

He is not the captain, but he is the main batsman. They are shouting his name.

I feel sorry for poor old, Fakhar Zaman. He gets out and the whole place is cheering.

  11. Pak 19-1published at 5 overs

Babar Azam the new batter for Pakistan and he is off the mark with a steady guide through third.

Fakhar Zaman just fishing outside the off stump and a good catch by Jamie Overton.

We know he is a big tall man, but he made that look very simple.

Some tight bowling by Gus Atkinson pays off!

Fakhar Zaman was struggling to find some momentum in his innings and ends up flashing at a delivery which was slanted across him.

It's travelling to slip but Jamie Overton gets those big paws above his head and holds on.

  14. 6 runs

    Pak 18-0published at 4 overs

The stands at the Gaddafi Stadium are not a hive of activity with the sun now down and temperatures more appeciable than earlier.

The fans are on the feet when Henry Crocombe bangs it in short and Saim Ayub hoicks it over the boundary behind square for six.

I want to see things more simple from England. Be patient out there and make the batters try something else.

  16. Pak 10-0published at 3.1 overs

Henry Crocombe persists with a line outside off stump.

Fakhar Zaman defends and the edge goes through the vacant third region for four.

It was slightly tentative shot, perhaps, albeit one played with quite soft hands. Either way, the first boundary of the Pakistan's chase.

I feel like Harry Brook was firm and strong in his opinions on that previous game and how England didn't bowl well. His bowlers will want to back him up today.

  18. Pak 6-0published at 3 overs

Gus Atkinson grips the ball tightly in his hand as he bustles in. He knows a tight start and building some pressure is key for England here.

Four dots to start with to Fakhar Zaman before the Pakistan opener punches wide of mid-on for a couple.

He plays a similar shot off the final delivery of the over, but Harry Brook stops it so it's just a single but allows him to keep the strike.

  19. How's stat?!published at 12:17 GMT 25 October

Sides posting a score under 250 in Pakistan have a record of one win, nine defeats since the start of 2022.

Australia (defending 231 in Lahore, June 2026) are the only team to successfully defend their score.

  20. Pak 3-0published at 2 overs

Henry Crocombe's first delivery in international cricket is outside off stump and beats the prod of Fakhar Zaman.

The Pakistan opener nudges towards mid-on to get himself off strike a couple of deliveries later.

Crocombe switches to round the wicket to Saim Ayub and hones in on that fourth or fifth stump line.

No signs of nerves from the 25-year-old. Solid first over.
