Should England be bowled out here it will be the 10th time they've been bowled out when batting first in 17 innings since the start of 2025.

I thought Pakistan would bring their fielders up and try to create pressure by letting the batters go over the top.

  4. Eng 221-9published at 43 overs

Three singles off this over, as Arafat Minhas tightens things back up.

The spinner has figures of 2-26, bowling eight consecutive overs from this end.

Haris Rauf has to bowl full and straight now.

Henry Crocombe a little bit edgy, but he survived and that's the most important thing.

  6. Eng 218-9published at 42 overs

One more single from Gus Atkinson takes him to 17 from 11 balls.

13 runs off the over, the most expensive of the day.

  7. Eng 217-9published at 41.4 overs

    Hello there, Gus Atkinson!

The Surrey man carves Haris Rauf for consecutive sixes, lifting the ball over point and then working the next delivery to fine leg.

You never know what you’ll get from the top order, at least the lower order are consistent in their poor returns.

    Peter, London

Feel like we need a higher bar for the term 'All-rounder'. Bowlers in particular seem to be able to claim that title way too easily.

    Ben, London

Maybe this is a clever ploy by England. All out around 40 overs to negate the possibility of reverse swing.

Probably not what Henry Crocombe was expecting when he got the nod yesterday.

As a tailender, if you don't bat, it is a real win, but he is going to have to bat for a while with Gus Atkinson.

Welcome to international cricket, Henry Crocombe. Nicely played by the number 11!

  10. Eng 205-9published at 41 overs

Not a bad start to your international career, Henry Crocombe.

The England number 11, on international debut, hits his second ball at this level for four down the ground.

Bizarre shot from Jamie Overton. They know that if they lose another wicket that's basically it, surely with 10 overs left they'd be better off knocking it round for singles and trying to get to 230-240?

    James, Nottingham

    That was brainless from Overton.

    Nigel, Knutsford

Really not very tactically astute by Overton - hardly his fault in terms of overall position - but batting out the 50 calmly makes more sense than teeing off when eight down.

    Holed out to long-off!

A second wicket for Arafat Minhas as Jamie Overton, perhaps looking to take England to a total that's remotely defendable, launches the ball to Babar Azam.

The experienced former skipper takes the catch with fingers pointing up, ensuring he doesn't step back onto the rope.

  13. How's stat?!published at 11:14 GMT 25 October

Batting first in ODIs since 2025, England have lost an average of 6.00 at the 40-over mark.

Of full members, only West Indies (6.31) have a higher average.

    There's a boundary.

Jamie Overton clubs a pull from the fourth ball of Haris Rauf's over, reaching the ropes at mid-wicket.

Slightly worried that if England lose today, what it would do to their confidence.

Previously, when England played Pakistan or Sri Lanka, you expect them to dominate, but they have not done that at all.

  16. Eng 192-8published at 39 overs

Three singles off Arafat Minhas' over.

England still without a boundary since the first ball of the 29th over - this is undoubtedly a poor performance with some soft wickets, but they're not playing especially recklessly, which is the common criticism of a Brendon McCullum led side.

The wrong team this. We've already shown we're weak on the batting side. To not bat your overs is embarrassing.`

    Ed, Bristol

147 runs out of 187 have come from two players... That's shocking.

    Alan, Caerdydd

England are still in this, this pitch is slow and Pakistan are poor chasers.

Excellent bowling from Razaullah. The young man seems to have a great personality.

Liam Dawson has fallen straight into the trap.

The intent to get the ball high means Dawson cannot control that shot.
