Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Worcester for the city's annual Remembrance Sunday parade.

Veterans, serving members of the armed forces and cadets will march through the city to Worcester Cathedral on 8 November for the annual Service of Remembrance.

The parade will leave Cornmarket at 09:15 GMT and travel via Mealcheapen Street, St Swithun's Street and High Street, before arriving at the cathedral.

A civic procession, led by the Mayor of Worcester and the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, will leave the Guildhall at 09:40 GMT and head to the cathedral ahead of the 10:00 service.

Following the service, people will gather at the war memorial beside the cathedral for a wreath-laying ceremony, before a two-minute silence is observed at 11:00.

The ceremony is due to finish at about 11:15, after which the parade will return past the Guildhall, where civic dignitaries will take a salute.

Road closures will be in place between 08:00 and 12:30 GMT, and members of the public attending the cathedral service have been advised to be seated by 09:30.

Parades will also take place in Claines and St John's, with road closures in place in both areas.

The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Tor Pingree, said: "Remembrance Sunday in Worcester is always a deeply moving and unifying occasion.

"It is a time for us to come together as a community to remember and honour the great sacrifices made by soldiers and their families in pursuit of peace.

"I warmly invite everyone in Worcester to join us in paying their respects at this important ceremony of remembrance and reflection."

A separate short civic service will also be held on Armistice Day, 11 November.

The mayor and standard bearers will gather at the cathedral war memorial at 10:45 GMT on Wednesday, before laying a wreath. A two-minute silence will then be observed at 11:00.
