Folkestone Running & Athletics Club said Andy was "kind, funny and tremendously supportive of his fellow club members, and his presence will be deeply missed".
A spokesperson for the club said on social media: "It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of club member Andy Gardiner.
"Our thoughts are with Andy's family and friends, and in particular his loving partner and fellow club member Carolyn, at this incredibly difficult time.
"Andy was a wonderful ambassador for Folkestone, having represented the town at events and races throughout the many years he spent running with us."
