  1. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:07 BST 17 September

    Northants 310 & 37-0 v Derby 372 & 594

Ricardo Vasconcelos and Luke Proctor have seen Northants safely to the close.

They've had to survive a couple of impassioned LBW appeals and a tight run out call.

They'll come back in the morning needing 312 more to win and regain the second promotion place.

It's been another competitive day between these two teams with Derbyshire fighting hard for a win even though their non promotion has been confirmed.

  2. Postpublished at 18:06 BST 17 September

    Sussex 358 v Notts 240 & 142-4

Lovely shot by Mitch Hay to pick up his first boundary of this match, pushing through the covers from Jack Carson for four.

Hay is onto 9 from 22 balls, while Jack Haynes is unbeaten on 37.

    Notts move 24 runs ahead.

  3. Close of play in Bristolpublished at 18:06 BST 17 September

    Gloucs 296 v Middlesex 326 & 298-6

An intriguing final day awaits at the Seat Unique Stadium.

Middlesex close on 298-6 with a lead of 328.

Sam Robson's 92 formed the backbone of the innings with keeper Harry Duke unbeaten on 52.

  4. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:06 BST 17 September

    Surrey 115 & 177-2 v Glamorgan 132 & 594

The third day has been about Glamorgan making the game safe to confirm their first division status for next season.

They showed no interest in declaring as they built a huge total and their last wicket pair of Mason Crane and Mir Hamza had great fun in adding 99 in less than 14 overs. Crane finished with a career beat 114 not out.

Surrey, who are safe come what may, surely can't chase down 612 despite some bright batting from Ryan Patel and Ollie Pope who've put on 132 so far.

Glamorgan have been setting attacking fields in search of victory but can go on the defensive in the unlikely event of Surrey threatening to reach their astronomical target.

  5. Leicestershire start well in big chasepublished at 18:04 BST 17 September

    Leicestershire 134-3 & 244 and Hampshire 214 and 363

It is all set up very nicely for a tight and tense finish tomorrow.

Leicestershire will need 178 to win this game and live to fight for one more game in the survival battle. That's despite a debilitating 27-point deduction.

The Foxes have batted really well - mixing up Rishi Patel and Rehan Ahmed's strokeplay with Sheridon Gumbs and Hamza Shaikh's dogged blocking.

You'd say things are even going into the final day. Early wickets for Hampshire might seal it, but the longer Leicestershire bat, and chip away at the target, the more confident they will feel.

I've been following Ben Coad's progress for a while. Is he an international bowler in waiting? Does he deserve an opportunity or are there too many ahead of him?

Somerset 73-3 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

That is that for the day at Headingley after the players went off for rain and bad light.

The umpires have just made the call and we will come back for a fourth and final day in this pulsating match with so much on the line for Somerset in particular.

Chasing 287 to keep their first County Championship title fate in their own hands, Somerset still need to knock off 214 more runs for victory.

Yorkshire need seven wickets to win.

It could not be more delicately poised.

  8. Postpublished at 17:57 BST 17 September

    Sussex 358 v Notts 240 & 135-4

Just one run from Ari Karvelas' 14th over for Sussex. He has 4-34 in this second innings.

Notts lead by 17 runs. They'll need a fair whack more to stand a chance of winning this match.

Somerset have lost two batsmen to just missing straight ones. For the second innings in a row, they're orchestrating their own demise.

  10. Postpublished at 17:51 BST 17 September

    Northants 310 & 22-0 v Derby 372 & 286

Shoaib Bashir jumps up and down in disbelief as Ricardo Vasconcelos is given not out when rapped on the pads.

Umpire Widdup clearly feels it's going down and a few moments later he further frustrates the away side by declining a run out appeal.

  11. Bad light stops play at Grace Roadpublished at 17:50 BST 17 September

Leics 156-3 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

The umpires are having a chat. The skies have been darkening for a little while - and the players are leaving the field.

That might be it for day three.

A further 178 runs are required for a Leicestershire win.

  12. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Headingleypublished at 17:50 BST 17 September

Somerset 73-3 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

Dom Bess is on to bowl for Yorkshire against his former team.

Tom Abell pushes one into the leg-side before Tom Lammonby turns around the corner for two.

And all of a sudden, the rain has come in again with the light dropping.

Somerset need another 214 to win, while Yorkshire need seven wickets for victory.

That might be that for today to be honest. We'll have to wait and see.

  13. Postpublished at 17:49 BST 17 September

Leics 156-3 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Hamza Shaikh strokes a two into the off side facing spinner Felix Organ.

Organ is getting some good rotation on this ball as Shaikh pushes defensively into the on side.

Organ gets a ball to hold its line and bounce on a length, hitting Shaikh on the arm as he takes a hand off the bat.

  14. Postpublished at 17:46 BST 17 September

Leics 154-3 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Manny Lumsden continues down the hill and Hamza Shaikh pushes the ball into cover. No run.

Lumsden gets one to bounce and nip away from Shaikh and Ben Brown takes that in front of his eye line behind the stumps.

    Another short ball is ducked.

Lumsden goes full. Shaikh is across and hit of the pad. Must be close but just leg side - and a leg bye is taken.

Point and square leg move back for Nick Kelly who misses a drive off a wide yorker.

  16. Notts into leadpublished at 17:42 BST 17 September

    Sussex 358 v Notts 240 & 121-4

Jack Haynes finds the boundary off Tom Price and Notts are into the lead by three runs.

    But they're effectively 3-4.

  17. Postpublished at 17:42 BST 17 September

Leics 153-3 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Hamza Shaikh presses forward to defend against the spin of Felix Organ.

The fifth ball is floated up and stroked through cover for one.

Organ is well wide of leg stump to end an otherwise testing over.

Great take by keeper-captain Ben Brown.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:42 BST 17 September

    Stokes c Lategan b O'Connor 12 (Durham 119-6, lead Worcestershire by 136 runs)

Worcestershire are running through Durham in this second innings.

Ben Stokes, who's enjoying a fine season with the bat averaging over 50, goes cheaply this time.

The all-rounder charges down the wicket to George O'Connor but slices him deep into the off side where Dan Lategan clings on.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Popepublished at 17:41 BST 17 September

    Surrey 115 & 158-2 v Glamorgan 132 & 594

Ollie Pope scatters the pigeons feasting on grass seed in the covers to score his seventh boundary.

That brings up his 50 from 52 balls and he's also launched two sixes.

Surrey are scoring at quicker than the required rate.

They surely can't chase down 612 can they?

  20. Postpublished at 17:39 BST 17 September

Leics 152-3 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Single to Hamza Shaikh off Manny Lumsden.

Nick Kelly defends. He tries a big drive and misses, struck on the pad outside off stump.

    Over bowled.
