Rain stops play at Headingleypublished at 15:46 BST 17 September

Somerset 8-1 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

And that's our lot for now as the rain has just started coming down at Headingley.

Somerset will have to go and sit in the away dressing room for a bit and ponder how they go about knocking off the 279 runs they still need to win.

Yorkshire will be plotting how to take nine more wickets.

We will keep you updated on the weather front and when we can expect play to resume.

Somerset 8-1 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

Archie Vaughan eases into the leg-side off Ben Cliff to pick up two before nudging another single to end the over.

His batting partner Tom Lammonby is still yet to get off the mark after 23 balls.

  3. Postpublished at 15:42 BST 17 September

Leics 67-1 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Sheridon Gumbs flicks Manny Lumsden leg side for two.

Lumsden alters his line and Gumbs leaves the ball outside off.

A no ball follows - and Gumbs sees out the over with a push to point for a single.

  4. 50 runs

50 up for Notts & tea at Hovepublished at 15:42 BST 17 September

    Sussex 358 v Notts 240 & 52-1

Nottinghamshire pass 50 to reduce the Sussex lead to 66 runs and now we are heading to tea at Hove.

It's not a bad start for Notts, who have lost Ben Slater caught behind after Ari Karvelas got one to take off from just back of a length.

The defending champions need to bat the day out and then some before they can think about trying to have a go at Sussex on the final day.

  5. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:41 BST 17 September

    Northants 310 v Derby 372 & 238-7

It's all set up for an exciting run chase tomorrow after Northants claimed three more wickets in the session but Derbyshire added 145 useful runs.

Their eighth wicket pair of Nicky Potts and Brett Randell have taken the lead to exactly 300.

Northants are likely to try to make a go of any run chase as they need a win to reclaim the second promotion place off Kent. But they'll also be mindful that a draw would keep them in touch while a defeat would put the ball firmly in Kent's court.

    Thank you! Keep them coming

    Ash, Somerset

Technically, Ash said they were hoping for 286 more updates. So that boundary means you can’t actually provide 286 updates on runs.

    Richard, Essex

    Right you are, Richard! Ha!

  7. Postpublished at 15:38 BST 17 September

    Sussex 358 v Notts 240 & 49-1

Lovely way to get off the mark for Freddie McCann with a punched straight drive down the ground for four off Ari Karvelas.

  8. Postpublished at 15:38 BST 17 September

Leics 62-1 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Rehan Ahmed chips a ball up in the air facing James Fuller - but the ball drops safely in front of cover.

The third ball is scooped away for four through long leg as Ahmed rolls the wrists with superb timing.

An uppercut through backward point off a short, wide ball brings four more as Ahmed takes one foot off the ground - and again times the stroke immaculately.

    Brilliant, inventive batting.

  9. Postpublished at 15:36 BST 17 September

Somerset 5-1 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

And now a first boundary of the Somerset run chase as Archie Vaughan unconvincingly squirms one away with a thick edge backward of square on the off side from Ben Cliff.

    Happy, Ash (15:36 BST)?

  10. Fourth innings under way at The Ovalpublished at 15:36 BST 17 September

    Surrey 115 & 1-0 v Glamorgan 132 & 594

Surrey have started their second innings facing a near impossible 612 to win.

Two results now realistically possible. Glamorgan have four sessions to try to bowl the home side out to secure a fourth win of the season.

But they also know a draw will be enough to make them safe while Surrey, subject to any appeal from Leicestershire, can also look forward to first division cricket again next season whatever the outcome.

Re 15:31 - can we have an update for every run of Somerset's innings please? Hopefully another 286 entries to go...

    Ash, Somerset

    We'll try our best, Ash...

  12. Postpublished at 15:34 BST 17 September

Somerset 1-1 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

Big appeal from Ben Coad and the Yorkshire field from the last ball of the fifth over as Tom Lammonby is struck on the pads but it might just be hitting outside the line of off stump.

  13. Postpublished at 15:34 BST 17 September

Leics 54-1 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

    Manny Lumsden is on.

He starts his first spell bowling short and Sheridon Gumbs tucks the ball away for one.

Single to Rehan Ahmed pushing on the back foot to mid on - and that's the innings 50 in the 20th over.

Gumbs clips the next ball fine for four.

The points deduction is harsh. But the key question is why did they take so long to make the decision? As a Surrey fan it keeps us up which is not necessarily a good thing given our need to rebuild

    Keith, Sussex

It pains me to say as a Leics man, but they were doomed to relegation from the first day of the season. They are just not good enough for Div.1 four day cricket. Only wins on dodgy pitches says it all!

Oh no the ball got up on Ben Slater, best deduct Sussex 27 points then.

    Will, Manchester

Some gallows humour there following Leicestershire's deduction for a sub-standard pitch.

A few more of you have had your say on that too...

  17. 50 runs

50 partnership for Derbyshirepublished at 15:31 BST 17 September

    Northants 310 v Derby 372 & 232-7

When the eighth wicket pair of Nicky Potts and Brett Randell came together Derbyshire were in danger of finishing with a lead of not much above 200 to defend.

But with Potts batting positively and Randell carefully they're pushing it up to approaching 300.

Potts, an injury replacement, now has his highest first class score of 43.

It's also been a decent match for the New Zealander Randell. He was the pick of the Derby bowlers in Northants first innings and deserved more than the three wickets he ended up with.

  18. Postpublished at 15:30 BST 17 September

Leics 48-1 (target 334 to beat Hampshire)

Just a leg bye off the latest Scott Currie over - and we have seven more overs to go till tea.

James Fuller loses his footing as he bowls to Sheridon Gumbs and falls on to the deck.

    He's fine.

He bowls round the wicket to Sheridon Gumbs with enough width for Gumbs to leave the ball.

He's beaten on the outside edge this time though and gets a single off the fifth ball, pushing into the off side.

Rehan Ahmed jabs down to keep out the last ball which doesn't get up much at all.

  19. Postpublished at 15:30 BST 17 September

Somerset 0-1 - target 287 to beat Yorkshire

Four overs, no runs, one wicket to start Somerset's vital run chase.

Edgy stuff at the moment. Almost quite literally in the case of Josh Thomas a short while ago.

As I just texted my sister, if Somerset chase this they deserve to be champions and will hopefully take all the confidence into next week and thump Surrey for the win.

    Dave, Chelmsford

Things have got a whole lot harder now, Dave...
