Riverside apartment project given go-ahead
D&AS/Norman Place LLPA plan to build nearly 240 apartments next to the River Thames in Reading has been unanimously approved.
The Norman Place office building in Vastern Road, close to the town's train station, has been unused since 2020 after its last occupant, Covéa Insurance, left.
That will be demolished to make way for Waterfront Square, which was approved by Reading Borough Council at a meeting on Wednesday. A total of 236 flats will be built there.
An initial plan, first unveiled in 2024, involved the building of 256 flats, but that scheme was reduced and revised.
The new block will include the 236 flats and a shop, which will be built fronting onto a public square adjacent to the river.
Of the proposed flats, 24 will be classed as affordable private rent flats. The remaining 212 will be build-to-rent flats.
